OUR
GENEALOGY
LeRoy W. Felzien
From
LeRoy:
I
started the Felzien family reunions in 1980 at the request of my
father, Elmer Felzien. I was born in St. Francis, Kansas in
1934 where my grandparents, Gus and Minna, and all of my fathers'
brothers and sisters also lived. There ended up to be 39
grandchildren to Gus or as also known locally as G.J.C. Only
two remained during my time, but there had been four of Gus'
brothers living in Cheyenne County at one time. This meant
many of these close relatives would congregate on many occasions
sharing time and meals together. As the 39 kids grew to
adulthood many or should I say most of us went off to seek our
fortunes and spend our lives away from the family home. This
also meant many of the cousins often didn't see each other.
Elmer wanted to see everyone again before all of those in his
generation were gone, so the first reunion was held in 1980.
We spread the word to all those we knew, and asked them in turn to
spread the word. We ended up with a crowd of 250 or more in a
space that might hold 150 people. We decided to have a reunion
every 3 years and I would try to research the family tree and put it
in some sort of printed form. These reunions have been held in
Kansas: St. Francis; Alberta Canada: Forestburg, Colorado: Denver,
Burlington, and Longmont; and Nebraska: Kearney. The next one
will be in the Bend, Oregon area. All reunions have been
sponsored and planned by different family members allowing different
branches of the family to host the event.
The
original family tree was prepared by my writing over 1000 letters
and gaining enough data to prepare the first hard copy by 1983 and a
supplement in 1986 without the use of a computer. I still
receive updates as we meet more relatives with more in-depth
knowledge of their individual families. We need someone on
your side of the family to fill in much missing information.
If you are interested please email me back and I will call you and
explain the book and what is needed. Copies of the original
are no longer available; however, individual family groups can be
copied and mailed to you upon request at cost.
At
a later reunion, Rowland Roelfs had duplicated much of this data
into a computer program and made it available to family members.
Our apologies, but the information is not yet available
electronically.
We
are hoping with the help of this website and the efforts of the
Webmaster, Dan Felzien, and the genealogy committee, we can reach
more relatives with more information about our family and future
reunions. We hope you will join us for future reunions, share
our family heritage and love for one another. I can be
contacted by email: FamilyPresident@Felzien.net.
Hoping
you will be interested in the family tree! LeRoy
